The Lonelies Tour Presents the Jay Morgans CD Release Party
Just in time for Valentine's Day depression to REALLY be setting in, The Lonelies Tour (Robb Brown, Jay Morgans, Terry Childers, and Maurice Bradley) returns to BAR in Plains to bring you NEPA's best original, acoustic music. To make things even better (or worse), Jay Morgans' "Burning the Portrait," the first solo release in a career spanning over a decade, will finally be available at the show, before being officially released on internationally on iTunes (as well as eMusic, Amazon, and other online digital outlets) on February 23rd, 2008.
February 15th, 2008
Who: The Lonelies Tour, featuring Robb Brown, Jay Morgans, Terry Childers, and Maurice Bradley
What: An evening of acoustic performances by NEPA's premiere original artists. All area forerunners of the craft of breaking original material into its simplest form, and each separated by distinct and innovative styles, the four Lonelies have quietly been bringing original music to NEPA and beyond for well over a decade.
Robb Brown, a staple of the acoustic bar-scene circuit, brings a rich, soulful voice to an eclectic mix of acoustic sounds. More than likely most noted for frequent collaborative performances such as the Robb and Kermit Show and Robb Brown and Hammer, the depth and importance of his original material easily surpasses his standard, impeccable performances of re-worked covers and inventive takes on popular standards. http://www.myspace.com/robbfrompublicsquare
Jay Morgans, most often compared to artists such as Lou Reed, Tom Waits, and Marc Cohn due to a straightforward and simple approach to both words and music, will highlight the evening with a CD pre-release party for "Burning the Portrait," an album recorded in 2001 at Saturation Acres in 2001 and only recently unearthed to be mixed and mastered by former Badlee Bret Alexander. the album officially releases digitally in international iTunes servers, eMusic, and other popular digital music providers on February 23rd, but a special limited edition pressing of the record will be available for sale at the event. Each of the 100 CDs feature the remastered versions of the original recordings and are individually numbered. Underground and demo copies of songs featured on the album, such as "Ani Difranco Wants Me," "Pouring Rain," and "History" have circulated through the Internet and bootleg traders for some time, but this will mark the first official release of the mastered collection of recordings as a whole. The nomadic Terry Childers first arrived in our quicksandic valley in the early 90's, where he quickly earned recognition for his distinctive voice and songwriting style. Bringing with him tales of both traveling to be lost and traveling to be found, Childers recently settled back in the area and reemerged with the same passion and insight, tinged now with a maturity and wisdom only few possess and even fewer can convey. http://www.myspace.com/captainwowstoughday
Maurice Bradley, the newest addition to the Lonelies (an idea originally born from quiet conversational dreams between Morgans and Brown in dimly lit rooms during hours most respectable members of society seldom see), emerged tentatively from reclusive original songwriting into the welcoming fold of the Lonelies Tour, quickly becoming another perfectly square peg for the impossibly round hole. Melodic and surprising, Bradley wasting no time in proving his worth both as a performer and a creative force at the first, long-time-coming Lonelies Tour show in late 2007. http://www.myspace.com/mauricebradley
